HOW CBT-I WORKS
What CBT-I is, and why it outlasts sleeping pills
Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) is the first-line, evidence-based treatment for chronic insomnia — and unlike a sleeping pill, it fixes the patterns that keep sleep broken rather than masking them for a night. Most people finish in a handful of structured sessions and keep the gains long after.
It works on three fronts. Stimulus control rebuilds the link between your bed and sleep, so lying there frustrated stops training your brain to stay awake. Sleep scheduling briefly tightens your time in bed to rebuild a strong sleep drive, then expands it as sleep consolidates. And cognitive work defuses the worry about sleep itself — the clock-watching and catastrophizing that keep the nervous system switched on. We tailor each piece to your sleep, your history, and the life around it.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Common questions
Is CBT-I done online or in person?
CBT-I at ScienceWorks is delivered entirely online by secure telehealth, to adults located in Tennessee during sessions. There is no in-person option — you take part from home, which removes travel as a barrier and lets you practice new sleep habits in your own bed.
How is CBT-I different from a sleeping pill?
A pill can sedate you for a night but doesn't change why sleep is broken. CBT-I retrains the habits and thoughts that drive insomnia, which is why guidelines put it first and why the gains tend to last after treatment ends.
How many sessions will I need, and what does it cost?
Many people see real change in a handful of sessions — CBT-I is usually shorter than open-ended therapy. We go over fees, scheduling, and any out-of-network reimbursement before you commit to ongoing care.
