HOW IT WORKS
What ACT is, and how it helps you live with anxiety
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based approach that helps you change your relationship with anxiety rather than spending all your energy trying to eliminate every anxious thought or feeling. With your therapist you learn to notice worry and fear without being ruled by them, and to unhook from the anxious thoughts that keep you stuck — a skill ACT calls psychological flexibility.
From there, the work turns outward: you reconnect with the values, people, and goals that avoidance has crowded out, and take small, meaningful steps toward the life you want — even while anxiety is still present. At ScienceWorks we adapt ACT for neurodivergent clients and co-occurring concerns, drawing on mindfulness, acceptance, and values-based strategies — structured, but never one-size-fits-all.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Common questions
Is ACT for anxiety available online or in person?
ScienceWorks offers ACT for anxiety by secure telehealth to anyone in Tennessee, and in person at our Nashville office for those who prefer it. Most clients choose online sessions, which remove travel and let you start from home; in-person visits in Nashville are available on request.
Does ACT mean I just have to accept anxiety?
No. Acceptance in ACT means making room for anxious thoughts and feelings so they hold less power over you — not giving up or resigning yourself to anxiety. You build skills to unhook from anxious thinking and take meaningful action toward what matters, at your own pace.
What does ACT for anxiety cost, and do you take insurance?
We're an out-of-network, self-pay practice, so insurance session caps don't limit your care. We accept all major cards (FSA/HSA eligible), offer interest-free payment plans, and provide monthly superbills for possible out-of-network reimbursement. We review fees before any ongoing sessions.
