HOW IT WORKS

What Brainspotting is, and how it helps with trauma

Brainspotting is a focused, body-based approach to trauma developed by Dr. David Grand. It works from a simple observation — where you look affects how you feel — to help you reach the parts of a traumatic experience that live in the deep brain and body, beyond words. With your therapist's steady attunement, you find a brainspot: an eye position linked to the felt sense of what happened.

Holding that spot while staying aware of your body, your nervous system can process and settle what has been stored there — often without retelling the event in detail. Because it works below language, many people turn to Brainspotting when talk-based therapy has felt hard to access. At ScienceWorks we deliver it within a safe, trusting relationship and adapt it for neurodivergent clients and complex histories.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common questions

Is Brainspotting available online or in person?

ScienceWorks provides Brainspotting entirely online via secure telehealth, to adults and teens located in Tennessee during sessions. There's no in-person option, which lets you attend from wherever you feel safe and removes travel as a barrier to starting care.

Do I have to talk about the trauma in detail?

No. One reason people choose Brainspotting is that it doesn't require retelling every detail of what happened. You focus on how the trauma feels in your body while your therapist helps you find and stay with a brainspot, working at a pace you set.

What does Brainspotting cost, and do you take insurance?

We're an out-of-network, self-pay practice, so insurance session caps don't limit your care. We accept all major cards (FSA/HSA eligible), offer interest-free payment plans, and provide monthly superbills for possible out-of-network reimbursement. We review fees before any ongoing sessions.
