HOW IT WORKS

What CBT is, and how it calms the anxiety cycle

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based approach that targets the two engines keeping anxiety alive: catastrophic thinking, and the safety behaviors and avoidance that feel protective but quietly keep fear in charge. With your therapist you learn to catch anxious predictions as they happen, test them against what actually occurs, and see for yourself how often the feared outcome never arrives.

From there the work becomes active: through gradual, paced exposure and small behavioral experiments, you face the situations you've been avoiding and let your brain relearn that uncertainty is survivable. At ScienceWorks we adapt CBT for neurodivergent clients and co-occurring concerns, building practical skills you can use between sessions — structured, collaborative, and never one-size-fits-all.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common questions

Is CBT for anxiety available online or in person?

ScienceWorks offers CBT for anxiety by secure telehealth to anyone in Tennessee, and in person at our Nashville office for those who prefer it. Most clients choose online sessions, which remove travel and let you start from home; in-person visits in Nashville are available on request.

How is CBT different from other anxiety therapies?

Classic CBT spots the catastrophic thoughts and safety behaviors that keep anxiety going, tests those predictions, and gradually faces what you avoid. That sets it apart from acceptance-based ACT, skills-based DBT, and inference-based I-CBT — we help you choose the best fit at your consult.

What does CBT for anxiety cost, and do you take insurance?

We're an out-of-network, self-pay practice, so insurance session caps don't limit your care. We accept all major cards (FSA/HSA eligible), offer interest-free payment plans, and provide monthly superbills for possible out-of-network reimbursement. We review fees before any ongoing sessions.
