HOW IT WORKS
What CBT for chronic pain is, and how it helps
Cognitive behavioral therapy for chronic pain (CBT-CP) is an evidence-based approach that treats your pain as real and works with the mind-body patterns that can turn the volume up on it. Rather than trying to talk you out of pain, your therapist helps you spot the thoughts, behaviors, and nervous-system responses — like pain catastrophizing, boom-and-bust activity, and avoidance — that quietly amplify suffering and shrink your day.
From there, the work is practical: you build pacing and activity skills, gently re-engage with what matters, reframe unhelpful pain thoughts, and calm an over-alarmed nervous system. The goal isn't to prove the pain away but to lower its grip and improve daily function — even when some pain remains. At ScienceWorks we ground this in health psychology and adapt it for neurodivergent clients.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Common questions
Is CBT for chronic pain available in Nashville or online?
CBT for chronic pain is available two ways: by secure telehealth to anyone located in Tennessee, or in person at our Nashville office at 2603 Elm Hill Pike, Suite C. Telehealth lets you attend from home on hard pain days; in-person is there if you're near Nashville and prefer it.
Does CBT for pain mean my pain is all in my head?
No. CBT for chronic pain treats your pain as real. It targets the thoughts, behaviors, and nervous-system patterns that can amplify pain and shrink your life — teaching pacing, reframing, and activity skills that lower suffering and improve function, even when some pain remains.
What does CBT for chronic pain cost, and do you take insurance?
We're an out-of-network, self-pay practice, so insurance session caps don't limit your care. We accept all major cards (FSA/HSA eligible), offer interest-free payment plans, and provide monthly superbills for possible out-of-network reimbursement. We review fees before any ongoing sessions.
