HOW IT WORKS

How we treat depression: CBT, ACT and DBT skills

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is one of the most studied first-line treatments for depression. You learn to notice the thought patterns and withdrawal habits that keep low mood going, and behavioral activation brings small, planned steps back toward the things that matter to you.

ACT for depression helps you loosen the grip of harsh thoughts and act on your values while mood is still low. When depression comes with intense, hard-to-manage emotions, DBT skills can be added alongside therapy. We help you choose at your free consult.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common questions

Is depression therapy available online or in person?

ScienceWorks offers depression therapy in person at our Nashville office and by secure telehealth to adults and teens across Tennessee. Many clients in the Nashville area prefer coming in, while others choose video to save travel time — you can start with whichever fits your life.

Can therapy help if I also have anxiety, trauma, or ADHD?

Yes. Depression often travels with anxiety, trauma, or ADHD, and CBT and ACT can be paced and adapted around those concerns. When intense emotions are part of the picture, DBT skills may be added. Your clinician tailors the plan so co-occurring symptoms are addressed together.

How long does depression therapy take, and what about cost?

Many people feel movement within a course of weekly sessions, though timelines vary with severity and goals. We review fees, scheduling, and any out-of-network reimbursement options up front, so you can decide before committing to ongoing care.
