HOW IT WORKS

What trauma-focused CBT is, and how it eases PTSD

Trauma-focused CBT is a structured, evidence-based approach to PTSD. With your therapist, you gently make sense of what happened, learn to recognize the thoughts and reactions that keep the trauma feeling present, and build practical skills to steady your body and mind — at a pace you set.

Over time, two things shift: the memories lose their grip as you process them in a safe, structured way, and your nervous system learns the danger has passed. At ScienceWorks we adapt trauma-focused CBT for neurodivergent clients and complex histories, drawing on cognitive-processing, exposure-based, and grounding strategies — structured, but never one-size-fits-all.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common questions

Is trauma therapy available online or in person?

ScienceWorks provides trauma-focused CBT by secure telehealth to adults and teens across Tennessee, and in person at our Nashville office if you prefer. Most people attend online from wherever they feel safe; in-person visits in Nashville are available on request.

Will I have to talk about my trauma in detail right away?

No. Trauma-focused CBT is paced with you. Early sessions focus on understanding your goals and building coping skills; you approach difficult memories gradually, only when you're ready, and always with your therapist's support.

What does trauma-focused CBT cost, and do you take insurance?

We're an out-of-network, self-pay practice, so insurance session caps don't limit your care. We accept all major cards (FSA/HSA eligible), offer interest-free payment plans, and provide monthly superbills for possible out-of-network reimbursement. We review fees before any ongoing sessions.
