HOW IT WORKS

What CBT-I is, and how it works for insomnia

Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) is the most studied, first-line treatment for chronic insomnia — recommended ahead of sleep medication. Instead of masking symptoms, it retrains the systems that actually run your sleep: your sleep drive, your body clock, and the nighttime arousal that keeps you wired when you most want rest.

With your clinician you rebuild a steady sleep window, use stimulus control to break the bed-equals-frustration cycle, and quiet the racing “what if I don’t sleep” thoughts that feed hyperarousal. At ScienceWorks we blend CBT-I with CBT and ACT skills and circadian strategies, adapting the plan for anxiety, shift schedules, and neurodivergent clients — structured, but never one-size-fits-all.

WHY CLIENTS CHOOSE SCIENCEWORKS

Specialized sleep care, not a sleep app

Because we’re independent and out-of-network, your care follows what actually works for your sleep — not session caps set by an insurer.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions about CBT-I

Is CBT-I available online or only in person?

ScienceWorks provides CBT-I entirely online by secure telehealth, to adults and teens located in Tennessee — including Chattanooga and Southeast Tennessee. There’s no in-person option, so you attend from home, which removes travel and makes a consistent sleep schedule easier to keep.

Does CBT-I work if I also have anxiety, ADHD, or chronic pain?

Yes. CBT-I can be paced and adapted for co-occurring anxiety, ADHD, autism, trauma, or chronic pain, and combined with CBT and ACT skills to calm the nighttime hyperarousal that often drives those restless nights.

How long does CBT-I take, and is medication required?

Most people notice change within a few weeks — CBT-I is a short-term, skills-based treatment, not open-ended. It works without sleep medication, and we review fees and any out-of-network reimbursement before you commit to ongoing sessions.
