HOW IT WORKS
What DBT is, and how it helps with depression
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based, skills-focused approach best known for helping people manage intense emotions. For depression, it's most useful when low mood comes with emotional overwhelm, shutdown, or difficulty coping — the patterns that make other tools hard to use.
DBT teaches four core skill sets — mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness — that you practice and apply in daily life. Rather than replacing depression-specific treatment, DBT skills build the emotional stability that makes recovery more workable. At ScienceWorks we tailor DBT for neurodivergent clients and co-occurring anxiety, trauma, or ADHD — structured, but never one-size-fits-all.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Common questions
Is DBT for depression available online or in person?
ScienceWorks offers DBT skills for depression both ways: by secure telehealth to adults and teens across Tennessee, and in person at our Nashville office. Many clients choose video sessions to save travel time, while others prefer meeting face-to-face — you can start with whichever fits your life.
Is DBT the right choice for depression?
DBT helps most with depression when intense or hard-to-manage emotions are central — overwhelm, shutdown, or self-critical spirals. If that fits, DBT skills can build stability alongside other treatment. In a free consult we'll help you decide whether DBT, CBT, ACT, or a blend fits best.
How long does DBT take, and what about cost?
Many people feel movement within a course of weekly sessions, though timelines vary with severity and goals. We review fees, scheduling, and any out-of-network reimbursement options up front, so you can decide before committing to ongoing care.
