HOW IT WORKS
What a depression assessment is, and how it works
A depression diagnostic assessment is a full clinical evaluation, not a screening quiz. A licensed psychologist takes a careful history, works through current diagnostic criteria in a structured interview, and uses validated symptom measures to gauge severity and track what is actually changing over time.
Just as important is what gets ruled out. Low mood can be driven by trauma, ADHD or autistic burnout, a sleep disorder, grief, chronic illness, or a bipolar pattern that antidepressants alone can worsen. The evaluation separates those possibilities, then ends in a written summary you can take to a therapist or prescriber so the next step fits the actual problem.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Common questions
Is a depression assessment available online?
Yes. The core of the evaluation is a structured clinical interview plus validated questionnaires, and both work well over secure video anywhere in Tennessee. In-person appointments are available at our Nashville office on Elm Hill Pike.
How long does a depression assessment take?
Most evaluations involve a 60 to 90 minute clinical interview, sometimes split across two appointments, plus a few minutes of questionnaires beforehand. Your written summary follows once the clinician has reviewed everything.
Do I get a diagnosis, and what happens next?
You receive a written summary of the findings, including a diagnosis where the evidence supports one, plus clear next-step recommendations. Assessment is not treatment, so we also help you plan therapy or a prescriber referral.
