HOW IT WORKS
What parent management training is, and how it works
Parent management training (PMT) — also called behavioral parent training — teaches parents and caregivers the specific strategies that change behavior at home. You are the one who gets coached, because young children cannot reliably change their own behavior until the adults around them change how they respond first.
Sessions are structured and practical. You learn positive reinforcement, clear instructions, predictable routines, and consistent follow-through, then practice between sessions and review what actually worked. At ScienceWorks we adapt PMT for ADHD, autism, and AuDHD families, and for parents who are neurodivergent themselves — structured, but never one-size-fits-all.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Common questions
Is parent training for ADHD available online or in person?
Both. ScienceWorks delivers parent management training by secure telehealth to families anywhere in Tennessee, and in person at our Nashville office. Many parents prefer telehealth because sessions fit around school and work, and you practice the strategies in the home where they need to work.
What ages does parent management training work for?
Parent training is the recommended first choice for ADHD in children under 6, and it stays effective through the elementary and early-teen years, usually alongside other supports. We adapt it to your child’s age and profile, including autistic and AuDHD children, rather than one fixed program.
How long does parent training take, and what about fees?
A typical course runs about 8–16 sessions, though timelines vary with goals and how much practice happens between sessions. ScienceWorks is out-of-network; we review fees, scheduling, and superbill or reimbursement options with you before you commit to ongoing sessions.
