HOW TEEN TRAUMA THERAPY WORKS

What trauma therapy for teens involves

After a frightening or overwhelming experience, a teenager's distress often shows up as anger, withdrawal, risk-taking, slipping grades, or a body that's always on alert — not as a tidy conversation about what happened. Teen trauma therapy is a structured, developmentally-aware approach that helps teens feel safe and regulated first, while giving caregivers a clear plan instead of guesswork.

Care begins with stabilization and emotion-regulation skills, then moves toward gradual, consent-based processing only when the teen is ready. Using trauma-informed therapy alongside routines, sleep, and coping supports — and coaching for the adults at home — the work helps lower reactivity, rebuild trust, and make day-to-day life at home and school more manageable.

Teen-affirming and evidence-based

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common questions

Is therapy online, or does my teen come in person?

ScienceWorks provides teen trauma therapy in person at our Nashville office or by secure telehealth to clients across Tennessee. Many teens open up more from their own room online; in-person sessions in Nashville are available if you prefer.

How are parents and caregivers involved?

Caregivers are part of the plan. We balance your teen's need for a private, trusting space with regular coaching for you on routines, communication, and how to support recovery at home — calibrated to your teen's age and what they're comfortable sharing.

What does therapy cost, and will insurance help?

We review fees, scheduling, and any out-of-network reimbursement options before you commit, so there are no surprises. Many families use FSA or HSA funds or monthly superbills; we'll walk you through what applies to your situation.
