What therapy adds when medication is already in place
Therapy for bipolar disorder works alongside medication, not instead of it. NIMH is explicit that the psychotherapies with evidence here are effective when used with medication. ScienceWorks does not prescribe, so if you already have a prescriber we work alongside them, and if you do not, we will say plainly that finding one comes first.
What therapy adds is the part medication does not reach: tracking mood and daily rhythm so episodes are caught early, keeping sleep and routine steady, repairing what episodes cost relationships and work, and CBT skills for the depressive stretches, where most people spend most of their time. Many people also arrive after years of being treated for something else — bipolar II especially, because help gets sought for the depression while the hypomania goes unnoticed.

Can therapy treat bipolar disorder on its own?
No, and we will not suggest otherwise. NIMH is clear that the psychotherapies with evidence for bipolar disorder are effective when used with medication. ScienceWorks does not prescribe. If you already have a prescriber we work alongside them; if you do not, finding one is the first step.
How is bipolar disorder told apart from ADHD?
They overlap on the surface, and ADHD commonly co-occurs with bipolar disorder. The distinction turns on episodes: bipolar mood shifts arrive in sustained stretches lasting days or longer, while ADHD runs as a steadier baseline. That is an evaluation question, not a checklist one.
Is bipolar therapy available online or in person?
