HOW C-PTSD THERAPY WORKS

What complex PTSD therapy involves

Complex PTSD develops from trauma that was prolonged or repeated — often beginning in relationships you couldn't easily leave. Alongside the classic PTSD symptoms, it tends to affect how you regulate emotion, how you see yourself, and how safe you feel with other people. That's why complex PTSD therapy is organized in phases rather than diving straight into the trauma.

Care begins with stabilization and skills — grounding, emotion regulation, and a stronger sense of safety. Only when you're ready does the work move into processing, then into rebuilding self-trust and connection. Drawing on trauma-informed CBT, ACT, and attachment-focused approaches, your clinician keeps the pace inside your window of tolerance, so progress feels steadying rather than flooding.

WHY CLIENTS CHOOSE SCIENCEWORKS

Phase-based and evidence-based

Because we're independent and out-of-network, the work can take the time complex trauma actually needs — not a session count set by an insurer.

You're matched with a clinician trained in phase-based complex-trauma care, blending CBT, ACT, and attachment approaches — not a one-size protocol.

Care is paced to your nervous system — by secure telehealth statewide, with in-person visits at our Nashville office when you prefer them.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common questions

How is complex PTSD different from PTSD?

PTSD usually follows a single event, while complex PTSD follows prolonged or repeated trauma. Along with PTSD symptoms, C-PTSD often affects emotion regulation, self-worth, and relationships — which is why treatment is phased, building safety and skills before processing the trauma itself.

Is therapy online, or do I need to come in person?

ScienceWorks provides complex PTSD therapy by secure telehealth to clients across Tennessee, and in person at our Nashville office if you prefer. Most do the work online from a private, familiar space; in-person in Nashville is available on request.

What does therapy cost, and will insurance help?

We review fees, scheduling, and any out-of-network reimbursement options before you commit, so there are no surprises. Many clients use FSA or HSA funds or monthly superbills; we'll walk you through what applies to your situation.
