HOW IT WORKS
How ACT therapy for depression works at ScienceWorks
At ScienceWorks, acceptance and commitment therapy for depression is provided by licensed Tennessee clinicians — by secure telehealth statewide, or in person at our Nashville office. You start with a free 15-minute consult, then meet weekly with a clinician matched to depression.
Sessions are structured but not scripted: you clarify what matters and take values-guided steps toward it, while learning to hold difficult thoughts and feelings differently. We adapt the work for neurodivergent clients and for co-occurring anxiety, trauma, or ADHD. Our guide to how ACT works for depression goes deeper, and CBT for depression may fit better if you want more structure.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Common questions
Is ACT for depression available online or in person?
ScienceWorks offers ACT for depression both ways: by secure telehealth to adults and teens across Tennessee, and in person at our Nashville office. Many clients choose video sessions to save travel time, while others prefer meeting face-to-face — you can start with whichever fits your life.
Should I choose ACT, CBT, or DBT for depression?
It depends on what's driving the low mood. ACT fits when fighting your thoughts has stopped working and you want to move toward what matters. CBT fits better when negative thought patterns and withdrawal are central. DBT skills help when emotions run high. A free consult sorts it out.
How long does ACT take, and what about cost?
Many people feel movement within a course of weekly sessions, though timelines vary with severity and goals. We review fees, scheduling, and any out-of-network reimbursement options up front, so you can decide before committing to ongoing care.
